Hope & Main, Rhode Island’s premier culinary incubator now in its tenth year, is launching something new at their Makers Market in Warren this summer: Main Street Meals.

Main Street Meals is a fresh rebrand of Hope & Main’s innovative and widely recognized Nourish Our Neighbors program that grew out of the pandemic-era food access crisis.  Hope & Main pays its start-up businesses to prepare meals that use ingredients from local farms, and distributes hundreds of frozen meals to human services agencies throughout the state so they can provide them to food-insecure families. Agencies include head start, women’s shelters, housing authorities, and public libraries. People who need emergency food assistance can access these nutritious, locally made meals at the point of need at no cost with no questions. Since 2020, more than 70,000 meals have been given away.

Hope & Main Market go-ers have long been able to buy a frozen, takeaway meal for $20 that, in turn, pays for an additional meal for a neighbor in need. This season, Hope & Main will also feature specially-sized portions of Main Street Meals at every market, hot and ready to eat, for $10 so more people can try them out, and hopefully provide more support for the program.

Thanks to a generous sponsorship from Washington Trust each week a different chef or Hope & Main member will prepare a hot, ready-to-eat meal. A limited number of meals will be available every Wednesday from 4pm-7pm at Hope & Main Makers Market between June 12th and September 25th. The hot meals will be priced at $10 plus a suggested donation of $5-$10 that will go to providing additional meals to neighbors in need.

There is ample free parking, a weekly activity for kids awarding them a $5 market token to use on-site, live music from local bands, additional dinner options for the family, and they welcome friends and family of all ages. The Makers Markets accept RI and MA SNAP and participate in the Bonus Bucks program, which means for every dollar spent the recipient gets an equal amount free to spend on fresh vegetables.
