Track 15 Announces Final Vendors of Highly Anticipated Food Hall

Middle Eastern and Modern Indian Concepts Round Out Merchant Lineup; Grand Opening Set for February 2025

Track 15, the highly anticipated food hall from the Marsella family, is pleased to announce the final two additions to its merchant lineup: Little Chaska and Tolia. They will join Dune Brothers, Dolores, There There, Giusto PVD, and Mother Pizzeria PVD to offer a variety of fare, from burgers and seafood to  Mexican, Middle Eastern, Indian, and Italian, at Track 15 when the food hall opens in February 2025.

Little Chaska, from Sanjiv and Vandana Dhar of Kabob and Curry Rasoi in Pawtucket, Rasa in East Greenwich, and Chaska in Cranston’s Garden City Center, will showcase some of the unique recipes that have made their restaurant group a favorite for diverse flavors and spices since 1990.

Tolia, a new concept from Turkish native Alp Gumuscu, formerly the executive chef at Yagi Noodles in Newport, will bring a taste of the region of Anatolia to Track 15. Anatolia surrounds Turkey, Greece and other parts of the Middle East and its cuisine is deeply rooted in ancient ingredients, spices, and history. Chef Alp and his team will bring his story and culture to life with thoughtful food and cared-for ingredients.

“We are excited to welcome the Dhars and Alp Gumuscu to the Track 15 family,” said Christopher J. Marsella, President, Marsella Development Corporation. “They are the final pieces to this culinary puzzle we’ve been putting together, and we look forward to showcasing their exceptional talent.”

Built in 1898, the original Union Station consisted of 14 intercity rail lines and operated until 1986, when the smaller Amtrak station was built. The name Track 15 is a nod to Union Station’s earliest days as the hub of southeastern New England’s transportation network, supporting the machinery, textile, and jewelry industries that fueled the growth and future of Providence.

Marsella Development Corporation and the Marsella family, longstanding visionaries in the City of Providence, partnered with acclaimed Convivium Hospitality Group to redevelop the historically important space and deliver a diverse, inclusive, and approachable hospitality experience that reflects the many cultural influences in Rhode Island.

“Building this food hall has been a labor of love for all of us,” continued Marsella.  “Despite the challenges of renovating a historic building, our team is making progress every day, and we can’t wait to open our doors to a truly unique experience that is unlike anything in Rhode Island.”

The overall development of the 18,000 square foot represents a $25 million investment in the restoration of the historic building which, when completed, will include a large central bar, a new home for seven Rhode Island-based restaurateurs, indoor and outdoor seating for approximately 600 patrons, an entertainment venue, and a 10,000 square foot plaza which will provide outdoor seating and a home for special events.   Rhode Island-based Vision 3 is the architect and Boston-based CM&B is the construction management firm, bringing to the project a wealth of experience in building food halls around the U.S.

ISCO Spirits four-year aged Bourbon
ISCO Spirits four-year aged Bourbon

Today, ISCO Spirits announced the upcoming release of their first ever four-year aged Bourbon, made from a 100% corn mash, a rarity in the bourbon industry. The base of their spirit starts with 100% regeneratively grown organic corn sourced from their partner farm in New York State, which is then distilled from scratch in Providence and rested for four years in charred new oak barrels. The product is 100% gluten-free.

This new spirit continues to tell the innovative story of ISCO’s approach to product development and authenticity. Four years after opening their doors their aged Bourbon joins their mainstay spirit line up of Ostreida Oyster Vodka, Structural Vodka, Ornamental Gin, Blue Velvet Bourbon, Patina Bourbon Barrel Aged Gin, Gemma Crystal Vodka and Seaflow Gin.

“We’ve been working on this project since the inception of ISCO, it’s a great time to reflect on how far we’ve come in such a short time. The flavors are deep and rich, it showcases our passion for authentic tasting notes made from the purest of ingredients.” said Head Distiller Dan Neff.  “With sweet notes of caramel and bourbon vanilla on the nose and a rich, full body with a lingering finish, it’s perfect for the change in seasons,” added Head Distiller Eric Olson.

On Thursday, October 10 ISCO will host a fun filled launch party from 5PM – 10PM in conjunction with Little Engine Personal Fitness who will be debuting their brand-new sauna that night as well. Staying true to offering attendees delectable taste, Pizza Envy will be on site serving up creative pies for the party.

Tasting notes for the bourbon: sweet notes of caramel and bourbon vanilla, balanced with warm cinnamon, walnut, toasted oat and hints of fruit and dark cocoa. Rich and full-bodied with smooth, lingering finish. 750ML per bottle, Alcohol is 50% by volume.

The Sauna @ Little Engine, ISCO’s neighbor on their patio will launch the same night as their bourbon, because nothing goes together like saunas and a little warming bourbon! ISCO will be offering special ongoing deals for Sauna members this fall and winter and the first 50 people to sign up for a membership will also receive a 20% discount on a bottle of bourbon from ISCO.

Newport Restaurant Group (NRG), an award-winning collection of unique restaurants and hospitality venues located throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts, celebrated Farm Fresh Rhode Island’s 20th birthday in August with a special ‘fruits from the field’ fundraiser.

From August 1st through August 31st, NRG restaurants Avvio (Cranston), Bar ‘Cino (Newport), and Waterman Grille (Providence), offered a special, locally-grown tomato dish using produce from Farm Fresh and Greenview Farms, and donated $2.00 from each dish sold to Farm Fresh. More than 1,500 dishes were sold, yielding a $3,058.00 donation to the organization.

“Farm Fresh has been an invaluable partner to NRG since its inception 20 years ago,” said Kevin DiLibero, Director of Culinary Arts, Newport Restaurant Group. “We are so thankful to our loyal guests who participated in this fundraiser, so that this wonderful organization can continue its efforts to not only connect farmers with restaurants, but to also increase access to fresh local food for those who need it the most.”

When Farm Fresh was created, Newport Restaurant Group quickly became its largest customer. Since then, NRG has continued its support of the organization, landing in its top three largest customers every year, and regaining the title of largest seven times, including this year.  NRG is Farm Fresh’s top tomato purchaser and has been each year since its founding in 2004. “Farm Fresh Rhode Island is deeply grateful to Newport Restaurant Group for their generous support through the ‘Fruits from the Field’ fundraiser,” said Nikki Ayers, Director of Giving, Farm Fresh Rhode Island. “This donation reflects their ongoing commitment to our mission of connecting local farmers with the community and increasing access to fresh, local food. We are thrilled to celebrate our 20th anniversary alongside such a dedicated partner and look forward to continuing our impactful work together.”

The Industrious Spirit Company Announces New Spirit: Aquavit, a Scandinavian Treat to Banish Winter Blues

Today, The Industrious Spirit Company (ISCO) announced its newest Tasting Room only spirit: Aquavit, a festive Scandinavian caraway spirit that is sure to chase away any post-holiday winter blues. With half of the ISCO team proudly being of Swedish descent they couldn’t wait to create a spirit that brought that heritage to life. ISCO has produced two versions of the aquavit, an aged version and an unaged version. It joins their mainstay spirit line up of Ostreida Oyster Vodka, Structural Vodka, Ornamental Gin, Blue Velvet Bourbon, Patina Bourbon Barrel Aged Gin and Gemma Crystal Vodka.

“Our team is thrilled to bring these two savory Aquavits to life,” said Eric Olson, one of ISCO’s Head Distillers “The real test was that my aunt approved, and said she would proudly pass around in her post as the Grand Lodge Deputy of Svea Lodge 362 of the Vasa Order of American Swedish Fraternal Organization Club.”

To warm things up ISCO will host a “Winter-Blues-Be-Gone Party!” on Thursday, January 25 starting at 5pm. The party will feature the opportunity to try and purchase both Aquavits, while enjoying complementary nibbles from a special caviar and bread bar, plus house-made pickles, tastes of a special collaborative aquavit-cured gravlax created by the Fearless Fish Market, a plethora of traditional Swedish licorice and last but not least a mobile, wood-fired sauna provided for guests warmth and cozy, boozy lounging by AltaerSauna! The celebration will continue all weekend, culminating on Sunday, January 28 with a Nordic Sweater Weather Party, featuring special foods curated by Head Distiller Eric Olson!

ISCO’s unaged Aquavit gives off the aromas of earthy cumin and warm rye give way to subtle candied lemon and caraway flavors followed by a lush, verdant dill that lingers on the palate. While Aquavit can be (very) happily enjoyed sipped straight, it is delightful in cocktails as well. Use it to spike your hot cider, try it in a riff on a Collins in place of the gin or a Mule in place of the vodka.

Its aged Aquavit has aromas of rye, caraway, vanilla and caramel followed by cozy cumin and candied fennel on the palate. This Aquavit, like its unaged sibling, can be (very) happily sipped straight, but try it also in an espresso martini, an old fashioned or a Negronis!

To create their aquavits, ISCO continues their authentic passion for making spirits from scratch. A rye mash, made by fermenting a beautiful organic corn alongside a bit of malted rye, is distilled with caraway seed and multiple loaves of a custom-made heavily seeded rye from a local family-run bakery.

The unaged aquavit is then infused with local fresh dill.  The aged version is left to rest for one year in thrice-used barrels that first held ISCO’s Blue Velvet Blue Corn Bourbon, followed by their Patina Barrel Aged Gin, and finally by the Aquavit.

We are very appreciative of the opportunity extended by the RI Builders Association to bring show attendees the House of Brews experience at the 2024 Rhode Island Home Show,” continued Weldy.

“The RI Home Show is a very diverse, locally owned, and highly promoted experience,” added John Marcantonio Chief Executive Officer, RIBA.  “As we continue to transform the 74-year-old show, with the “House of Brews,” we are looking forward to promoting and growing the local craft beer industry – I’m sure we all agree, home improvement, and a RI brewed beer…they go together!”

“The RI Home Show is always an annual favorite at the Convention Center, and we are very excited that they will be partnering with the Rhode Island Brewers Guild to make this event a bigger and better experience for all who attend,” said Lawrence Lepore, General Manager of the Rhode Island Convention Center.

Sons of Liberty Spirits Co. Kicks Off Dry January with Signature Mocktails

The South County tasting room offers a variety of non-alcoholic drinks in support of growing trend in sober curiosity

Rhode Island’s Sons of Liberty Spirits Co. has released a signature mocktail menu in their South Kingstown tasting room as sober curiosity continues to grow. The menu features six non-alcoholic options for guests, two of which are alternatives to popular cocktails – a Gin & Tonic and a Moscow Mule.

Participation in Dry January, a New Year’s resolution to be more mindful of alcohol consumption or any of a number of valid reasons can lead one to seek out non-alcoholic beverage options. “I’m participating in Dry January myself,” said Bryan Ricard, Sons of Liberty’s Marketing Director. “But that doesn’t mean I want to stay at home and drink water. I’m still going to go out to have fun.” Mocktails have seen increased menu placement at local bars and restaurants as the desire for such options has grown.

The six mocktails available in Sons of Liberty’s tasting room:

  • B&W Cookie Coffee – egg nog, cold brew, black forest syrup, vanilla and chocolate bitters
  • Gimposter & Tonic – carefully blended tinctures and extracts
  • No Mules in Moscow – carefully blended tinctures and extracts
  • Tame Hunt – pomegranate juice, orange juice, cinnamon brown sugar syrup, ginger beer syrup
  • Sazerac Swizzle – pineapple, orange, lemon, star anise and Sazerac bitters
  • Lemon Pepper Refresher – N/A gin, lemon effervescent crystals, lime, black pepper, lavender lemon bitters with a pink pepper sugar rim

“We want to offer a lot more than just a flavored soda water,” explained SOL’s Social Media Manager Alicia Ricard. “Taking a break from alcohol doesn’t mean you need to take a break from flavor.” Sons of Liberty currently crafts all of their bitters, syrups, cordials and liqueurs in-house for their regular cocktail menu. The same team used that experience and knowledge to create their non-alcoholic drinks and plan to continue to do so well past January.

Sons of Liberty’s tasting room is located at 1425 Kingstown Road, South Kingstown RI 02879 with open hours of Thursday 5-9pm, Friday 5-10pm, Saturday 1-10pm, Sunday 11am-5pm.

RI Vegtoberfest 2022

RI VegFest, Rhode Island’s only fully vegan festival, will again host their annual “RI Vegtoberfest” at Trinity Beer Garden, located at Biltmore Park in downtown Providence, on Saturday, September 23, 2023 (rain date is September 24th). This fun, one-day celebration of compassionate plant-based living is proudly sponsored by Bootstrap Compost, World Centric, and Sam’s Soulutions, and will feature sampling from restaurants, breweries, a distillery, and a kombucha brand, alongside a marketplace with vegan products available for sale and non-profits sharing their missions.

RI Vegtoberfest’s line-up includes: Plant City, Like No Udder, PiANTA Vegan Restaurant, SoCo Vedge, Wild Heart Vegan Bakery, RastaRant, Gym N’ Juice, JA Patty, Sarcastic Sweets, Basil & Bunny, Casa Azul, Born From Pain Vegan Foods, The Pissed Pepper, Nourished, Lucy Juicy, Fieldstone Kombucha, Pivotal Brewing Co., Narragansett Beer, Bully Boy Distillers, Proclamation Ale, Moniker Brewery, Trinity Brewhouse, High Tide Mushroom Farm, Daniel Kern Art, Emerald City Plant Shop, The Broke Girl Beauty Company, Kay’s Curries, Sacred Flame, Soul Good Confections, Vegan Power Co., Beth Bakes, Ink Fish Books, Stay Vocal, Caribe & Co., Pop’s Famous Guac, Huetown, The Riley Farm Rescue, and Sowa Goat Sanctuary.

These carefully curated vendors and exhibitors will be sampling food and drink, selling vegan products, and sharing educational information about plant-based living. RI Vegtoberfest is also fully compostable, and Bootstrap Compost and World Centric will be on site helping ensure that waste is collected and sorted for composting. In 2022, Vegtoberfest’s composting efforts diverted nearly 400 lbs of waste from the landfill.

Tickets are available in advance for all three sessions: 11:00, 1:30, and 4:00 pm, at www.rivegfest.com, but are likely to sell out and may not be available at the door.

Fogo De Chão debuts new Brazilian Flavor in Providence

Fogo De Chão

Located at Providence Place, Rhode Island’s most prominent shopping, dining, and entertainment center at 148 Providence Place, the new restaurant features an open-air churrasco grill in the heart of the dining room, where guests can watch Fogo’s Gaucho Chefs practice the culinary art of churrasco as they butcher and grill a variety of fire-roasted proteins.

The Providence restaurant marks the brand’s first restaurant in Rhode Island. As part of their introduction to the community, Fogo will donate a portion of its first week of sales to Rhode Island Community Food Bank which distributes millions of pounds of food to those in the community in need of assistance. The opening of the Providence restaurant supports the brand’s continued 15% growth in 2023, with 12 new domestic and international leases signed and recent openings in key markets including Quito, Ecuador, Lynnwood, WA, National Harbor, MD, Woodland Hills, CA, and Paramus, NJ with more planned for later this year.

“We’re excited to open our first Rhode Island restaurant at Providence Place and introduce the culinary art of churrasco to new and existing guests as we continue to expand our presence in the Northeast,” said Barry McGowan, Chief Executive Officer of Fogo de Chão. “As we continue to grow our brand globally, our commitment to our local communities remains a top priority. We’re excited to partner with Rhode Island Community Food Bank, who helps bring hunger relief to so many families throughout the Providence area and beyond.”

The Providence location also features an expansive patio for al fresco dining, soaring wine cases, a contemporary Bar Fogo area with lounge seating, and dry-aged meat lockers for in-house aging.
