Bake. Eat. Love. Wins Rhode Island Food Fights Great Cupcake Championship 2015

The first Rhode Island Food Fights event of 2015, the Great Cupcake Championship, was held this past Sunday, March 15th at Hope Artiste Village in Pawtucket. Thirteen area bakers specializing in cupcakes competed to see who had the best, according to a panel of six culinary judges (which included this writer), along with competing for the People’s Choice. Three artistic awards, created by Ahlers Designs, were bestowed upon the winners.

According to judges, David Dadekian of Eat Drink RI, Chef Alberto Lopez of The Dorrance, Chef Maria Meza of El Rancho Grande, Chef Andrew Shotts of Garrison Confections, Vanessa Volz of Sojourner House and Kristin Walcott of The Cupcakerie, first place went to Bake. Eat. Love. of Pawtucket. Judges’ second place went to new competitor, Edible Creations by Gerry of Westport, Massachusetts. The Lila Delman People’s Choice Award went to Providence’s Simply Baked. Congratulations to all the winners.

RI Food Fights was created and produced by Jim Nellis. John Taraborelli and Mike “Dink Martindale” Ritz entertainingly hosted the event.

Cox Local Video: Cupcake Championship Winner Crowned

The first Rhode Island Food Fights event of 2014, the Great Cupcake Championship, was held March 9th at Fête in Providence. Thirteen area bakers specializing in cupcakes competed to see who had the best, according to a panel of six culinary judges, which included Eat Drink RI‘s David Dadekian, along with competing for the People’s Choice. According to judges, Dadekian, Jan Dane of Stock Culinary Goods, Shawna Lawton of Project Undercover, Chef Maria Meza of El Rancho Grande, Julius Searight of Food4Good and Chef Andrew Shotts of Garrison Confections, first place went to The CupCAKE Contessas for their Mexican hot chocolate cupcake.

Judges’ second place went to new competitor, Patticakes of Wakefield, for their Sweet Corn cupcake. People’s Choice was awarded to Woonsocket’s Under the Olive Tree, for their Nutty Monkey cupcake. It is Under the Olive Tree’s second win in the People’s Choice category after taking it at The Spectacular Cookie Smackdown in December. Congratulations to all the winners.

RI Food Fights was created and produced by Jim Nellis. John Taraborelli and Mike Ritz entertainingly hosted the event.

City Girl Cupcake Wins Rhode Island Food Fights Great Cupcake Championship

The first Rhode Island Food Fights event of 2013, the Great Cupcake Championship, was held this past Sunday, March 10th at Fête in Providence. Twenty-two area cupcake makers competed to see who had the greatest cupcake, according to a panel of five culinary judges (which included this writer), along with competing for the People’s Choice. Three awards, created by Ahlers Designs, were announced by the time the last crumb of cupcake was consumed.

According to judges Jan Dane of Stock Culinary Goods, Chef Danielle Lowe of Ellie’s Bakery, Andrew Shotts of Garrison Confections, Chef Kristin Brennan of The Cupcakerie and David Dadekian of Eat Drink RI. First place went to City Girl Cupcake of 99 Weybosset Street in Providence for their “Bailey’s Chocolate Caramel” cupcake. City Girl Cupcake took Second place in the 2012 Cupcake Championship.

Second place went to Bake. Eat. Love. of Providence for their “Peanut Butta Jelly Cupcake,” which is chocolate fudge cake topped with peanut butter mousse & raspberry jam and dipped in chocolate ganache. The People’s Choice award went to The CupCAKE Contessas, also winners of the 2012 People’s Choice award, for their Girl Scout Cookie cupcake. Congratulations to all the winners.
