Iced Coffee Day is Dunkin’ Donuts’ annual local initiative to support Hasbro Children’s Hospital. For every iced coffee sold on May 22, 2019 at Dunkin’ Donuts locations in Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts, $1 will be donated to the hospital.

The annual event has helped raise well over $2 million since its inception in 2010. As in the past, Dunkin’ is partnering with Good Night Lights. Good Night Lights is a daily tradition in which local residents, businesses and law enforcement officials let the kids at Hasbro Children’s Hospital know they’re thinking of them. Every night, at exactly 8:30 p.m., Good Night Lights participants shine flashlights (and police cars, firetrucks and ambulances turn on their lights) toward the hospital from various locations in downtown Providence. In return, patients in the hospital flicker their room lights on and off and shine their own flashlights from their windows.

Starting this year, all new Dunkin’ stores in Rhode Island and Southeastern, Massachusetts will flash their lights as well. Iced Coffee Day is all about helping the brave kids and their families at Hasbro, and so is Good Night Lights. At many Dunkin’ locations when you buy an Iced Coffee in May, you will receive a small key chain flashlight to participate in Good Night Lights. The Iced Coffee Day celebration will conclude on the evening of May 22nd with a “block party” at India Point Park, where everyone who has received a flashlight, and all our community members, are invited to head on over for a night of games, food and fun, all leading to a huge 8:30 p.m. flashlight flash to our friends at the hospital.

Iced Coffee Day is a full day about them, and we want them to see just how many people truly care.

The annual Dunkin’ Donuts Iced Coffee Day is being held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 and this year area Dunkin’ Donuts locations are partnering with the local Providence tradition Good Night Lights to raise even more money in support of Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

For every iced coffee sold at Dunkin’ Donuts locations in Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts, Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees in the area will donate $1 to the hospital. This annual Iced Coffee Day has helped raise well over $2 million since its inception in 2010.

Good Night Lights is a daily tradition in which local residents, businesses and law enforcement officials let the kids at Hasbro Children’s Hospital know we’re thinking of them.

Iced Coffee Day is all about helping the brave kids and their families at Hasbro, and so is Good Night Lights. So, this year, anytime you buy an Iced Coffee at most area Dunkin’ Donuts starting the first week of May, you will receive a small key chain flashlight that is marked with the date of Iced Coffee Day. Post to social media and let everyone know about the May 23rd Iced Coffee Day using the tag #IceDD4Hasbro.

All day long on Iced Coffee Day, Dunkin’ Donuts will be hosting mini events at various store locations with local celebrities and even a Patriot player. They’ll be at the stores working the windows and encouraging customers to take part in this great cause. The Iced Coffee Day celebration will conclude on the evening of May 23rd with a block party at India Point Park, where everyone who has received a flashlight are invited to head on over for a night of games, food and fun, all leading to a huge 8:30 p.m. flashlight flash to the Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

News Bites: Dave’s Marketplace & North Kingstown Food Pantry, Kountry Kitchen and DD Iced Coffee for Hasbro Children’s Hospital

Dave's Marketplace

Three current news releases—Eat Drink RI is not the source for these items—please follow any links for more information.

Dave’s Marketplace Makes Donation to North Kingstown Food Pantry

Dave’s Marketplace, a locally owned RI grocery chain has donated $25,000 to the North Kingstown Food Pantry’s Capital Campaign to relocate to the Little Red Schoolhouse.

The North Kingstown Food Pantry has been providing food to residents for over 30 years. The Food Pantry now provides an average of 7500 meals per month. Due to the increase in demand for their valuable services, they have outgrown their present location. The Food Pantry was given the opportunity to lease the Little Red Schoolhouse on School Street, giving the Food Pantry the benefit of a much larger space and more central location to better serve North Kingstown residents.

Dave’s Marketplace, a longtime supporter of the North Kingstown Food Pantry is fully committed to serving the community of North Kingstown. Recognizing the increased demand for the Food Pantry’s services, Dave’s Marketplace is giving their full support by donating $25,000 towards the renovations to the Little Red Schoolhouse.

For further information, please contact Renee Hughes of Dave’s Marketplace 401-885-1191.

Kountry Kitchen Awarded Favorite Breakfast in Rhode Island by Little Lee’s BREAKFAST IN AMERICA

Kountry Kitchen Restaurant in Greenville, Rhode Island has been named Rhode Island’s Favorite Breakfast via an online vote through Little Lee’s BREAKFAST IN AMERICA site. Lee Rice, a food blogger from California, is traveling around the country to eat the favorite breakfast in each state which she plans to assemble into a coffee table book. Rice visited Kountry Kitchen on Thursday, May 2, where she met owners and brothers Thierry and Lionel Delos and dined on their “delicious French-influenced breakfasts.”

May 22 is Iced Coffee Day at Dunkin’ Donuts in Rhode Island and Bristol County Massachusetts

$1.00 for Every Cup of Iced Coffee Sold at Participating Dunkin’ Donuts Restaurants in Rhode Island and Bristol County, MA, will be Donated to Hasbro Children’s Hospital

Dunkin’ Donuts, America’s all day, every day stop for coffee and baked goods, today announced that Wednesday, May 22, is Iced Coffee Day in Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts. All day, participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants will donate $1.00 for every cup of its famous Iced Coffee sold to The Dunkin’ Donuts & Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation (DDBRCF) for the benefit of Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

“We are thrilled to celebrate Iced Coffee season with the return of Iced Coffee Day to benefit Hasbro Children’s Hospital,” said Joe Prazeres, Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee. “Thanks to our loyal and generous guests, this annual promotion has generated nearly $475,000 for the organization, and we are excited to continue to raise money for a wonderful cause.”

Since the inception of this annual fundraiser in 2010, Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees have raised $474,678 to benefit Hasbro Children’s Hospital. The funds have resulted in tangible improvements to the facility, including the creation and production of activity books for patients and a new play area in the pediatric ambulatory clinic. In 2013, the 6th Floor family room will be renovated, thanks to the funds raised in 2012.

“Many families with children being treated at Hasbro Children’s Hospital stay at the hospital round-the-clock for days, weeks or even months,” said Robert B. Klein, M.D., pediatrician-in-chief of Hasbro Children’s Hospital. “We are grateful to Dunkin’ Donuts for giving us the opportunity to create a warm and comfortable space that is a ‘home away from home’ for those families going through the stresses and anxieties of their child’s hospital stay.”

The mission of Dunkin’ Donuts charitable foundation, DDBRCF is to serve its neighborhoods by taking care of their basic needs – safety, hunger relief and children’s health. The DDBRCF brings together a wide network of stakeholders, including franchisees, crew members and employees to serve their local communities.

Sin Desserts in Providence opens retail store and café

Sin, an award-winning dessert bakery based in Providence, owned and operated by pastry chef Jennifer Luxmoore, has expanded into a storefront café and retail operation on the ground floor of their 200 Allens Avenue location. The shop is now open with a grand opening celebration planned for Saturday, April 14. In addition to cakes, the store sells an assortment of cookies, cupcakes, muffins, scones and what Luxmoore calls “cupcake shots”—mini versions of her cupcakes for 75¢. There is hot coffee and cold-brewed iced coffee for sale as well.

I’ve had the opportunity to sample many of Luxmoore’s desserts at various culinary events and a couple of weddings over the last few years. Her work has often jumped out at me as very flavorful and always a great dessert, while not being overly sweet. This past November I was a judge for the City of Providence‘s 375th birthday cake competition, which Luxmoore won, a decision I was happy to take part in. Her cake was beautiful and was also my favorite bite of the evening (the competitors served the judges cupcake samples of their larger creations to evaluate taste). That cake is on display in the retail space and you can find some photos of it on Facebook.

I stopped in to the store on it’s second day of being open. Luxmoore treated me to a Cheddar Bacon Scone and iced coffee while we talked about her opening this new part of her business. “We’d been having a bunch of people stop in over the course of the last year, thinking that we were a traditional bakery,” Luxmoore said. “Since we were only custom order, we didn’t have anything to give them. I hate to send people away without treats! So we started looking for a retail space, but didn’t find the right space. Everything was too big, too small or too expensive. Then late in [2011], I learned that the gallery space next to me was going to be open.”

After a remodel—which included the display cases, coffee preparation stand, a bookshelf of great pastry cookbooks and other reading materials, and seating for sixteen—the store was ready to open. “We’re starting out small—a few items and a few flavors of each item—and we’ll expand as we get busier. We have a great Cheddar and Bacon Scone and Blueberry Muffin, Chocolate Chip Cookies baked fresh every morning, plus a different cookie every week. We started out with our favorite Chipotle Peanut Butter! Plus we have Whoopie Pies, cupcakes and brownies, and of course Coffee and Iced Coffee,” Luxmoore said.

The Sin Desserts shop will be open Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 200 Allens Avenue in Providence. You can find Sin on Facebook and at eatwicked.com.
