Yacht Club Bottling Works Creates Their First Seasonal Limited Release “Berrymelon Rebellion”

Yacht Club Bottling Works, The Official Soda and Water Company of Rhode Island, is producing its very first Seasonal Limited Release flavor Berrymelon Rebellion, a Strawberry Watermelon Soda embodying summer with an iconic label tied to Rhode Island’s vital part in America’s history.

“We’ve been planning seasonal limited release drinks for some time and wanted to start with a summer flavor,” said Yacht Club owner John Sgambato. “After much sampling we landed on the perfect Strawberry Watermelon blend. Since summer is also a very patriotic time of year with the Memorial Day and Independence Day holidays, we decided to go with that theme for the label. We chose the Burning of the Gaspee for the label of Berrymelon Rebellion to tie in both Rhode Island and American History.”

Famed cartoonist and Rhode Island resident, Frankie Galasso, designed the limited release label. Galasso, a nationally syndicated sports, editorial and entertainment cartoonist/artist, created the Burning of the Gaspee label in his iconic way. “John and I have been friends for ten years,” Galasso said. “So when he wants something different for his limited release flavors, he asks to have my cartoony style.” Galasso can be found on Facebook at facebook.com/frankgalassori/.

Berrymelon Rebellion is now available at the Yacht Club Bottling Works Factory Store in North Providence, will be sold at farmers markets and can be found in local stores and restaurants through distribution by McLaughlin & Moran. The Strawberry Watermelon soda is refreshing on its own and will also make a great mixer for summer cocktails. It’s only being sold through August—or while supplies last—so don’t miss out on this delicious flavor with the very Rhode Island label.

Also available now in wide release is Yacht Club’s very first caffeinated soda, Rhody Red, with artwork of Misquamicut by Mike Bryce on its label. Rhody Red may remind you of a certain Dr. named soda, but Yacht Club’s soda uses no high fructose corn syrup and is, of course, bottled locally.

Yacht Club Bottling Works Unveils New Label Artwork and a New Flavor “Rhody Red”

First new labels are on shelves now with the entire line getting new art

Yacht Club Bottling Works, The Official Soda and Water Company of Rhode Island, is rolling out new labels for all thirty-three flavors of seltzers and sodas that the company produces. Mixed and bottled in North Providence for over one hundred years, the labels on Yacht Club’s bottles have always included Rhode Island imagery, and now each flavor has its own unique identity.

The seltzers, of which there are now eight available flavors with the latest addition of Grapefruit Seltzer, will have historic images on their labels, while the twenty-five soda labels will all show ocean scenes. The Grapefruit Seltzer has an image of College Hill with First Baptist Church and the Providence Art Club clearly visible, while the new Sparkling Water label shows a scene that many people will immediately recognize as the iconic WaterFire along the Canal Walk.

Two sodas now shipping with new labels are Root Beer with a painting of a mermaid looking upon the lighthouse at gorgeous Beavertail Point, and Blue Raspberry with Rose Island lighthouse and the Newport Pell Bridge in the background. The sodas will all have ocean scenes on their labels and the next to be released will be Cream soda with an image of Block Island’s Southeast Light. The seltzers will continue the historic theme with the release of new Cherry Seltzer showing Blackstone Boulevard on its label.

The new labels were all created by Mike Bryce, artist at Bryce Studio, who felt it was a “great collaboration.” Bryce has always liked to make art that invokes nostalgic Rhode Island and said, “I’ve been a professional artist for over 30 years, have had the soda for years and [Yacht Club owner] John Sgambato approached me to make some new labels. They went over well and so it works out great for both of us.”  Bryce Studio can be found on Facebook at facebook.com/Mikebryceart.

Two of Yacht Club’s newest flavored sodas, Orange Cream and Grapefruit already have the new style artwork with Plum Island and Colonial Wharf on their labels respectively. All these great flavors will be joined by Yacht Club’s newest creation, their very first caffeinated soda, Rhody Red which will have artwork of the Misquamicut Festival on its label. Rhody Red may remind you of certain Dr. named soda, but Yacht Club’s uses no high fructose corn syrup and is, of course, bottled locally. All of Yacht Club’s sodas and seltzers will now be capped with “Official RI Soda” bottle caps as well.

Yacht Club Bottling Works, celebrating their 101st year in operation, added another twist to this year’s presidential election with their “Soda Pop Poll” duo of drinks – Hillary’s Liberal Limeade & Donald’s Populist Punch, along with the addition of Gary’s Sassy Sarsaparilla, Yacht Club is now ready to release the results of the poll, announcing which political pop New Englanders like best.

“The results are in and sales show that by a very close margin, New Englanders love the flavor of Donald’s Populist Punch best,” said John Sgambato, owner of Yacht Club Bottling Works. “Thank you to everyone who purchased the Soda Pop Poll sodas. I hope it was a fun way to make it through this election year. We really appreciate your support and look forward to creating more political pops in the future.”

There were 48,048 bottles of Yacht Club Soda sold in the Soda Pop Poll and the final “vote” count is:

  • Donald’s Populist Punch, 22224 votes, 46.3%
  • Hillary’s Liberal Limeade, 21360 votes, 44.5%
  • Gary’s Sassy Sarsaparilla, 4464 votes, 9.2%

The results were announced by Sgambato in live video on NBC 10 WJAR’s Facebook page at noon on Election Day, alongside Governor Gina Raimondo, Senator Jack Reed and Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, encouraging people to get out and vote.

These were the first politically charged beverages released by the Official Soda and Water Company of Rhode Island. The Sgambato family hopes purchasers enjoyed having a friendly debate with friends while choosing their favorite of the two. Hillary’s Liberal Limeade has a raspberry lime flavor, while Donald’s Populist Punch is a traditional fruit punch that begins with a strawberry flavor and ends with notes of peach.

Famed cartoonist and Rhode Island resident, Frankie Galasso, designed the limited edition labels with caricatures of the 2016 presidential candidates, featuring Clinton and Trump front and center with their respective donkey and elephant mascots. Mike Corsini of Skepsis Multimedia is the graphic designer.

Every drink produced by Yacht Club Bottling Works begins with natural artesian water from a well drilled in 1923 through the bedrock 180 feet below the building. The water is natural mineral water and has exceptional characteristics for carbonation. Its temperature is 45 degrees, which allows carbonation without the use of cooling towers that can be bad for the environment. Also, the water naturally accepts 5.5 volumes of carbonation without alteration. This means no salt is added for carbonation.

All syrups are made onsite with only extra fine granular pure cane sugar mixed with natural artesian water – never high fructose corn syrup! When the syrup is fully mixed, the finest extracts and flavorings are added to make a truly unique drink. Yacht Club also has a large selection of sugar free options including diet soda and naturally flavored sparkling water. Yacht Club Soda has a clean, smooth flavor and is genuinely refreshing.

The “Soda Pop Poll” flavors are available until sold out, along with the always available complete line of Yacht Club sodas and seltzers at the company store (8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday & Tuesday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, closed Sundays), at select stores throughout Southeastern New England, and at farmers markets.

Yacht Club Bottling Works, celebrating their 101st year in operation, is adding another twist to this year’s presidential election with the release of their “Soda Pop Poll” duo of drinks – Hillary’s Liberal Limeade & Donald’s Populist Punch. After the election, Yacht Club will release the results of the poll to see which political pop New Englanders like best.

“This election season has been so negative with incredibly polarizing candidates,” said John Sgambato, owner of Yacht Club Bottling Works. “We really wanted to have some fun with the election and let people have a little taste of the edgy candidates – both flavors have a slight bite to them.”

These are the first politically charged beverages released by the Official Soda and Water Company of Rhode Island. The Sgambato family hopes purchasers will enjoy having a friendly debate with friends while choosing their favorite of the two. Mike Corsini of Skepsis Multimedia is the graphic designer.

“I consider myself to be a bit of a soda freak and I love to support local businesses,” said artist Frankie Galasso. “It was fun to collaborate with John and create these wild caricatures with their animal companions. I think people will really enjoy the artwork.”
