The Blogetarian’s Review: KitchenBar

Clams at KitchenBar

Clams at KitchenBar

Last week our friend Marla wanted to go out for a martini at 4:45 when the husband and I got out of work. We all agreed, 4:45 was the time. At 3:30 we each got a picture of a half drank Ketel One dirty martini with extra green olives from the KitchenBar on Hope Street in Providence. Was this a test? Do we drop everything and rush out to start our Friday night early? No, we both have to work so Marla can wait until the time we had agreed upon.

I was able to get there at 4:30 and it I was pleasantly surprised to see our friend NOT half in the bag but instead, took the high road and decided to order some food. I was greeted with an Antipasti. Warm (or at least it was when Marla, ordered it an hour ago, very tasty hummus, roasted red peppers, feta, kalamata olives, some rockin’ apricot goop and baba ghanoush. (p.s. I’m allergic to eggplant which instantly caused my tongue to swell up – which was swell indeed).

After the swelling subsided, my husband and our friend Chris join us and I ordered my standard Sons of Liberty Battle Cry Manhattan while the rest of the table enjoyed Ketel One martinis. Our table had ordered so many Ketel One martinis that I was suddenly presented one out of the blue. I passed it off to the husband and ordered another Manhattan.

Next, it was time to soak up some of the alcohol. I had been in the mood for littlenecks all day, drenched in butter and white wine, so what’s what I ordered. No one else wanted any so I had them all to myself. Exquisite. I wish they never ended. But they did, and no one else at the table had eaten yet.

The masses wanted pizza so we enjoyed a grilled chicken pizza and a veggie pizza. These pizzas were nothing to write home about but they got the job done. The toppings were fresh, the cheese was gooey and wonderful but the crust could have used something . . . anything really. The crust was probably a frozen out of the box crust, which isn’t bad, but if you throw it on a grill or add some EVOO and some SPG (salt, pepper, garlic) it will turn any frozen crust into a win. Seriously. It was good, don’t get me wrong. I would order them again.

Try this place out for your self. Try something other than “just appetizers” and I know you will be blown away. We frequent this place. You will be pleased.
