Salmon is a super supper choice, and this Friday, it’s more affordable than ever. On January 20, Whole Foods Market is hosting a one-day sale on wild-caught Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)-certified sockeye salmon for $7.99/lb. – a 50 percent savings!

Whole Foods Market maintains the highest standards for seafood quality and sustainability. We prohibit treating our fish with preservatives – so you know what’s on your fork is fish, the whole fish, and nothing but the fish. Your salmon purchase supports healthy ocean ecosystems, too. Our sockeye is certified sustainable by the MSC, meaning fishing methods are low impact and salmon populations are abundant according to the MSC’s high standards for sustainability. And to add to it, the MSC’s chain of custody certification means that the fish are tracked to ensure that they come from the correct, certified fishery.

Check out our Whole Story blog for more and here are and a few favorite recipes:

  • Roasted Salmon and Broccoli with Lemony Whole Wheat Linguine
  • Spice-crusted Roast Salmon with Ginger Beets
  • Honey Mustard Salmon Salad
  • Citrus-Marinated Grilled Salmon with Tabbouleh Salad
  • Roasted Salmon and Grapes

Sourced from the great runs in Alaska, Whole Foods Market’s sockeye salmon is hand-selected by our own port buyers at the peak of the season, then packed and frozen exclusively for our seafood cases to stock during the winter months. This is a delicious deal – hook, line and sinker.

The University Heights store in Providence (601 N. Main Street) is hosting vendors during the day for recipe tastings including DennyMikes and S&F Marinades, both from Maine! And if you stop by between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. you can enjoy storewide recipe tasting featuring the Wild Sockeye Salmon! You’ll also receive a complimentary sample of Cindy’s Kitchen marinades with your purchase!

Whole Foods Market University Heights recently invited a group of food writers to sample their holiday offerings. Along with their abundance of prepared foods, Whole Foods is offering Party Packs through New Year’s Day. I do enjoy cooking and suggest that people do as much themselves, but sometimes—especially this time of year when we’re running in a million different directions on top of our thousand usual directions—getting a little assistance can be a good thing, and if that assistance can come from a store where you’re assured their cooking with quality ingredients, than all the better.

The Party Packs are discounted from Whole Foods Market daily pricing, and the savings go up as you purchase more of the Packs (12 items per Pack). Seafood offerings include the items you see in the above photo along with Shrimp Egg Rolls, Lobster Egg Rolls, Crab Rangoons, Escargot, Shrimp Cocktail and Mini Stuffed Clams.

There are also Mix & Match Appetizers that are made each day in the Prepared Foods Department. These can be purchased in Packs of a dozen as well and include Stuffed Mushrooms, Stuffed Figs, three variations on Chicken Satay, four types of Meatballs and three kinds of Arancini. The staff at Whole Foods Market University Heights is also making their own Chutneys and Relishes. The Cranberry Onion Relish pictured to the left was a favorite of mine. In addition, there are an assortment of Every Cheese Platters, Crudités Bowls, Fruit Bowls and Antipasto Trays.

To round out your entertaining, we were also offered some desserts to sample. The Raw Fudge Balls were excellent. The Bakery Party Packs (in baker’s dozens of 13) include Assorted Cookies, Cheesecake Drops, Cupcakes, “Chipwiches” and Petite Cheesecakes, Tarts & Fours.

Prices vary, but most the Party Packs begin at $10 a dozen items. Whole Foods Market University Heights is at 601 North Main Street in Providence.
