Veritable Distillery Debuts, Bottling The Spirit(s) Of New England

Connecticut-Based Distillery Revives Centuries-Old Techniques with the Launch of its First Two Expressions: Ship’s Bell Bourbon & Southwick’s American Gin

Ship's Bell Bourbon, a new release from Veritable Distillery, is a bold, historically-inspired whiskey crafted in Connecticut using open-top fermentation and traditional 18th-century techniques. Made with heritage grains and no industrial additives, this bourbon delivers rich, warm notes of caramel, toasted spice, and oak. Its depth and smooth finish make it ideal for sipping neat or as the foundation of a classic whiskey cocktail. It's available online and select NY, RI and CT retailers.

Its depth and smooth finish make it ideal for sipping neat or as the foundation of a classic whiskey cocktail. It’s available online and select NY, RI and CT retailers.

Veritable Distillery, a Connecticut-based spirits company dedicated to crafting authentic, premium historically-inspired spirits, proudly unveils its first two expressions: Ship’s Bell Bourbon and Southwick’s American Gin. By reviving time-honored production techniques and using natural ingredients without the addition of industrial chemicals, Veritable Distillery captures the essence of 18th-century New England in every bottle.

Veritable Distillery is committed to sustainability, ethical production, and transparency. By using ingredients that were historically available and commonly traded in New England over 300 years ago, Veritable ensures that its products remain true to the origins of American distilling. Veritable employs open-top fermentation for its whiskey and fractional distillation for its gin, striking a balance between artistry and science to create spirits with exceptional depth and character.

Veritable Distillery also leads the industry in radical transparency by voluntarily disclosing ingredients and serving facts directly on its bottle labels, a first for the spirits industry. Unlike most distilleries, which often withhold details about their industrial production process and chemical additives, Veritable believes that consumers deserve to know what goes into their spirits. Each label clearly lists all ingredients, setting a new standard for complete visibility from grain to glass. This initiative allows customers to make informed choices, fostering a deeper appreciation for authentic, traditional spirits.

Veritable Distillery products are available online and at select retailers in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New York.

Introducing Ship’s Bell Bourbon

Ship’s Bell Bourbon is an authentic blend developed in collaboration with the renowned Bardstown Distillery in Kentucky. Aged for three years in new American white oak casks (Quercus Alba), the bourbon is then blended with The Veritable American Single Malt Whiskey—crafted from 100% malted barley and aged for three years in ex-Rye casks from Bardstown Distillery. The result is a blended bourbon of exceptional depth and balance.

Newly released Southwick's American Gin from Veritable Distillery is crafted in Connecticut using botanicals historically traded in 18th-century New England. Produced through fractional distillation for clarity and depth, it offers bright, expressive notes of grapefruit, pink peppercorn, and nutmeg. With a smooth, clean finish and no industrial additives, it's ideal for classic cocktails or enjoyed simply on its own. It's available online and select NY, RI, and CT retailers.

  • Mash Bill: 73% Corn, 21% Rye, 6% Malted Barley
  • Aroma: Caramel-covered apple, dried peanut shell, and stewed black cherry
  • Palate: Sweet oak, apple cider donut, and a lingering caramel finish
  • ABV: 43% (86 Proof)

Introducing Southwick’s American Gin

Southwick’s Gin is crafted with rarely-utilized historical techniques; unlike conventional gins that use inexpensive vodka as the base spirit, Southwick’s Gin uses aged rum as the base spirit, a practice dating back nearly 600 years. Distilled in a custom-designed copper pot still, three separate “fractional” groups of botanicals are prepared, macerated, vapor infused and distilled individually before being blending together in the final product. This method ensures a harmonious, layered flavor profile and allows for each of the carefully selected botanicals to shine.

  • Aroma: Pine sap and honeyed blueberry with fresh citrus zest and hints of vanilla
  • Palate: Effervescent citrus, peppercorn, and earthy mountain pine with a lingering warm spice finish
  • ABV: 46% (92 Proof)

“We created Veritable Distillery to highlight the beauty and complexity of traditional spirits production – countering the mass production and homogenization of spirits by large corporations,” said Finneas Pryor, Vice President and Co-Founder of Veritable Distillery. “By focusing on authenticity, craftsmanship and community, we provide our customers with a better opportunity for informed consumption. Our first two releases, Ship’s Bell Bourbon and Southwick’s American Gin, honor New England’s rich history while setting a new standard for transparency in the industry.”

Track 15 Announces Final Vendors of Highly Anticipated Food Hall

Middle Eastern and Modern Indian Concepts Round Out Merchant Lineup; Grand Opening Set for February 2025

Track 15, the highly anticipated food hall from the Marsella family, is pleased to announce the final two additions to its merchant lineup: Little Chaska and Tolia. They will join Dune Brothers, Dolores, There There, Giusto PVD, and Mother Pizzeria PVD to offer a variety of fare, from burgers and seafood to  Mexican, Middle Eastern, Indian, and Italian, at Track 15 when the food hall opens in February 2025.

Little Chaska, from Sanjiv and Vandana Dhar of Kabob and Curry Rasoi in Pawtucket, Rasa in East Greenwich, and Chaska in Cranston’s Garden City Center, will showcase some of the unique recipes that have made their restaurant group a favorite for diverse flavors and spices since 1990.

Tolia, a new concept from Turkish native Alp Gumuscu, formerly the executive chef at Yagi Noodles in Newport, will bring a taste of the region of Anatolia to Track 15. Anatolia surrounds Turkey, Greece and other parts of the Middle East and its cuisine is deeply rooted in ancient ingredients, spices, and history. Chef Alp and his team will bring his story and culture to life with thoughtful food and cared-for ingredients.

“We are excited to welcome the Dhars and Alp Gumuscu to the Track 15 family,” said Christopher J. Marsella, President, Marsella Development Corporation. “They are the final pieces to this culinary puzzle we’ve been putting together, and we look forward to showcasing their exceptional talent.”

Built in 1898, the original Union Station consisted of 14 intercity rail lines and operated until 1986, when the smaller Amtrak station was built. The name Track 15 is a nod to Union Station’s earliest days as the hub of southeastern New England’s transportation network, supporting the machinery, textile, and jewelry industries that fueled the growth and future of Providence.

Marsella Development Corporation and the Marsella family, longstanding visionaries in the City of Providence, partnered with acclaimed Convivium Hospitality Group to redevelop the historically important space and deliver a diverse, inclusive, and approachable hospitality experience that reflects the many cultural influences in Rhode Island.

“Building this food hall has been a labor of love for all of us,” continued Marsella.  “Despite the challenges of renovating a historic building, our team is making progress every day, and we can’t wait to open our doors to a truly unique experience that is unlike anything in Rhode Island.”

The overall development of the 18,000 square foot represents a $25 million investment in the restoration of the historic building which, when completed, will include a large central bar, a new home for seven Rhode Island-based restaurateurs, indoor and outdoor seating for approximately 600 patrons, an entertainment venue, and a 10,000 square foot plaza which will provide outdoor seating and a home for special events.   Rhode Island-based Vision 3 is the architect and Boston-based CM&B is the construction management firm, bringing to the project a wealth of experience in building food halls around the U.S.

“Farm Fresh has been an invaluable partner to NRG since its inception 20 years ago,” said Kevin DiLibero, Director of Culinary Arts, Newport Restaurant Group. “We are so thankful to our loyal guests who participated in this fundraiser, so that this wonderful organization can continue its efforts to not only connect farmers with restaurants, but to also increase access to fresh local food for those who need it the most.”

When Farm Fresh was created, Newport Restaurant Group quickly became its largest customer. Since then, NRG has continued its support of the organization, landing in its top three largest customers every year, and regaining the title of largest seven times, including this year.  NRG is Farm Fresh’s top tomato purchaser and has been each year since its founding in 2004. “Farm Fresh Rhode Island is deeply grateful to Newport Restaurant Group for their generous support through the ‘Fruits from the Field’ fundraiser,” said Nikki Ayers, Director of Giving, Farm Fresh Rhode Island. “This donation reflects their ongoing commitment to our mission of connecting local farmers with the community and increasing access to fresh, local food. We are thrilled to celebrate our 20th anniversary alongside such a dedicated partner and look forward to continuing our impactful work together.”

Yacht Club Soda, The Official Soda of Rhode Island, is playing politics in the 2024 presidential election with the return of their Soda Pop Poll. It’s Round Two with the choice of two new Limited Release flavors for consumers to show their presidential preference: Donald’s Trumpian Punch and Joe’s Bidenomics Berry. As with the last two presidential Soda Pop Polls, Yacht Club will release the results of the poll this fall to see which political pop people like best.

In 2020, soda lovers had a favorite flavor, but didn’t pick the winner of the election, with that year’s limited release of Donald’s Big League Punch beating Joe’s Berry-Blue Lemonade 54% to 33%, with 11% going independent. In 2016, the palates of New Englanders did predict the winner of the election with Donald’s Populist Punch just narrowly overtaking Hillary’s Liberal Limeade.

“Our customers loved ‘voting’ with their taste buds in 2020 and 2016 so we always planned on Limited Release Soda Pop Poll flavors this year. With the rematch of Biden vs. Trump we wanted to give people new flavors to try in Round Two,” said Yacht Club Soda owner John Sgambato. “Donald’s Trumpian Punch is a raspberry fruit punch this year and Joe’s Bidenomics Berry is a blueberry-raspberry soda. As in the past, every soda sold is a vote for that candidate to become President of Soda Pop!”

Once again Frankie Galasso, nationally syndicated sports, editorial and entertainment cartoonist/artist and Rhode Island resident, drew the Limited Release label art. Galasso then turned his art over to Kristina Cinquegrana Petrilli, graphic designer and artist, and co-founder of Faith & Grace Design Studios. Petrilli, a North Providence native and resident of Warwick, RI, created the two labels as Sgambato and his team were preparing to bottle Trumpian Punch and Bidenomics Berry. You can find more about Galasso, including his limited-edition lithograph celebrating the Celtics latest world championship at www.thefrankiegalasso.com. More information about Petrilli and her design work, including shopping her co-founded line of greeting cards, can be found at kristinapetrilli.com.

Both Soda Pop Poll flavors are now available at the Yacht Club Factory Store in North Providence—see their Facebook page at facebook.com/yachtclubsoda for hours, will be sold at farmers markets and can be found in local stores and restaurants through multiple distributors. Plus, you can order online from Yacht Club Soda’s site at yachtclubsoda.com and they ship all their flavors anywhere in the United States.

Donald’s Trumpian Punch and Joe’s Bidenomics Berry will only be available through election season, or while supplies last, so don’t miss out on your chance to vote in the Soda Pop Poll!

Rhode Island’s Sons of Liberty Spirits Co. is adding a new Bourbon Whiskey to their core line of spirits. Bottled at 94 proof and finished with toasted oak staves, Sons of Liberty Bourbon is the inaugural release to their Barrel Selection Series – a series dedicated to handpicking whiskey barrels from other distilleries for the sole purpose of enhancing their flavor through finishing.

“For this Bourbon, we have selected barrels, and will continue to select barrels, that match a flavor profile we are looking for,” explained Mike Reppucci, Sons of Liberty’s President & Founder. “We then bring them in house to finish them with a blend of toasted oak staves to complement and enhance the starting Bourbon.” Sons of Liberty has been crafting a variety of whiskies, gins, vodkas and more since 2011, but this process is a first for them. “This is a new adventure for us,” said Reppucci, “and we’re really fired up to use our knowledge and experience acquired over the years to be able to offer a great tasting Bourbon at a great price.”

Described on the label as being bold, yet approachable, with notes of toasted vanilla and caramel, 750ml bottles of Sons of Liberty Bourbon are now available in Rhode Island liquor stores with an SRP of $39.99. The Bourbon is also available in Sons of Liberty’s tasting room in South Kingstown. “We encourage Bourbon lovers to visit the tasting room and try it out in a whiskey flight, on its own or even in a cocktail,” said Sons of Liberty’s tasting room manager, Paul Baptista. “It’s truly delicious. Well-rounded, great depth of flavor, very enjoyable.”

Sons of Liberty’s tasting room is open Thursday-Sunday. Thursdays 5-9pm, Fridays 5-10pm, Saturday 1-10pm and Sundays 1-7pm. The product locator on Sons of Liberty’s website can be used to find local stores carrying the new Bourbon.
