This has been a momentous year for Chefs Beau Vestal and Elizabeth LaMantia. First, in mid-May, they took over ownership of one of Providence’s best restaurants, New Rivers, from Vestal’s mentor Bruce Tillinghast. Tillinghast opened New Rivers in 1990 with his late wife Pat, bringing Vestal on as chef in 2000. Vestal rose to be New Rivers’ Executive Chef and a few years ago hired LaMantia in his kitchen. Tillinghast retired in May and the now-couple Beau and Elizabeth are now New Rivers owners, with Vestal remaining in the kitchen while Elizabeth runs the front-of-the-house. Here’s to a very long and glorious run for the two of them there.
There’s a second reason for congratulations today though. On Saturday, June 30, Beau Vestal and Elizabeth LaMantia were married. This isn’t exactly a site for a marriage announcement, but when the marriage involves two people who are so integral to the excellent local food community we have here in Rhode Island, it deserves to be trumpeted everywhere. Congratulations and best wishes to Beau and Elizabeth for a long, wonderful marriage.
