Mill’s Tavern Showcases Australian and Japanese Wagyu in the most Distinctive Program in Providence

Guests can enjoy a variety of cuts or a flight of the luxurious beef for an experience not found anywhere else in New England

Mill's Tavern Wagyu Flight
Mill’s Tavern Wagyu Flight

Mill’s Tavern, located at 101 North Main Street in Providence, is proud to offer the most distinctive Wagyu program in Providence. From rare Japanese A5 to premium Australian Grade 6–7 Wagyu and prime grade steak, each cut comes from carefully selected vendors who share Mill’s passion for quality.  For more information, visit www.millstavernrestaurant.com/wagyu/.  To make a reservation, please call (401)-272-3331 or email  info@millstavernrestaurant.com.

Wagyu is world renowned as the pinnacle of exceptional beef. Extensive marbling from fine intramuscular fat melts at a lower temperature than regular beef, resulting in melt-in-your-mouth tenderness and a buttery taste. Japanese Wagyu offers a sweeter, richer flavor profile, primarily due to higher marbling and a longer feeding period (600+ days) while Australian Wagyu features a robust, buttery taste, though typically less sweet and slightly firmer due to its shorter feeding time (350–450 days). Wagyu’s unique characteristics stem from specialized breeding, meticulous care of the cattle, and strict quality control measures, making it a highly sought-after delicacy.

Mill’s Wagyu menu includes a 5 oz. Imported Score 7 Australian Wagyu Manhattan Filet; an 8oz Imported Score 7 Australian Wagyu True Petite Strip; and a 32 oz. Imported Score 3 Australian Wagyu Tomahawk Ribeye, each served with Mills’ Steak Sauce and the option to add Roasted Bone Marrow, Wagyu Herb Butter, or Peppercorn au Poivre.

Guests looking to experience the full spectrum of Wagyu indulgence can enjoy the Wagyu Flight: Wagyu Tartare on roasted bone marrow, a 3 oz. Japanese score 5 Kobe, and a 5 oz. Australian score 7 Wagyu with chef’s accoutrements. This is an offering unique to Mills and not found anywhere else in New England.

“We are proud to offer this exciting Wagyu program to our guests, built on a commitment to education, transparency, and exceptional flavor,” said Lesley Hall, General Manager, Mill’s Tavern. “Just one bite of this luxurious beef cooked over our wood grill will provide an incredibly memorable dining experience.”

A Holiday Meal, A Stronger Community: Farm Fresh RI Calls for Thanksgiving Box Donations Amid Rising Food Insecurity

Farm Fresh Rhode Island Thanksgiving Boxes
Farm Fresh Rhode Island Thanksgiving Boxes

For many Rhode Islanders, a nourishing Thanksgiving dinner is not guaranteed this year. With federal cuts to SNAP benefits, rising food prices, and growing demand at local food pantries, thousands of families face the possibility of going without a holiday meal.

Farm Fresh Rhode Island is working to change that–one meal at a time. The nonprofit has launched its annual Thanksgiving Harvest Box sale, inviting the community not only to purchase boxes for their own celebrations, but also to donate boxes directly to local families in need.

Each Harvest Box is filled with locally grown vegetables, fresh herbs, and handcrafted seasonings from Rhode Island farmers and producers. Short of a turkey, the boxes include everything from Brussels sprouts and butternut squash to a jar of traditional cranberry sauce and a spice rub, as well as a recipe guide.

“This holiday season, families across Rhode Island will be forced to make hard choices: between groceries, rent, and heating bills,” said Kellie Beretta, Assistant Director of Development at Farm Fresh RI. “A donated Harvest Box doesn’t just put food on the table. It gives families the dignity of a joyful holiday meal with their loved ones, and the comfort of knowing that their community cares.”

The Thanksgiving Harvest Box program is unique in its dual impact: every box donated not only feeds a household in need, but also supports the local farms and food businesses whose products fill the boxes. “It’s neighbors helping neighbors,” Beretta added. “When you donate a box or purchase one for your own meal, you’re supporting our entire local food community.”

Farm Fresh RI has set a goal of donating 350 Harvest Boxes this year—feeding around 3,000 Rhode Islanders this Thanksgiving. All donated boxes will be distributed directly to food banks and hunger relief agencies in Rhode Island. The organization is also partnering with local businesses and community groups to sponsor bulk donations and help meet this year’s growing need.

This year’s Thanksgiving Harvest Boxes will include:

  • Brussels Sprouts (1 lb) from Ward’s Berry Farm
  • Butternut Squash (1) from Ferolbink Farms
  • Carrots (2lbs) from Four Town Farm
  • Cranberry Sauce (12 oz) from Harvest Kitchen
  • Delicata Squash (1) from Schartner Farms
  • Fresh Herbs (rosemary, sage, thyme, parsley) from Allen Farms Organic Farm
  • Garlic (2 bulbs) from a local farm
  • Leek (1) from Zephyr Farm
  • Parsnips (2 lbs) from Four Town Farm
  • Shallots (1/2 lb) from Zephyr Farm
  • Mushrooms (8 oz) from RI Mushroom Co.
  • Turkey Rub (0.4 oz pouch) from Sanctuary Herbs
  • White Potatoes (5 lbs) from Schartner Farms
  • Sweet Potatoes (5 lbs) from Schartner Farms
  • Onions (5 lbs) from Schartner Farms

Boxes are $75 each, for purchase or to donate, and the order form closes on Sunday, November 16th, 2025. To order a box or donate one to a family in need, visit www.farmfreshri.org/thanksgiving

This is about more than an agreement on paper; it’s about empowering Latino leaders and creating a platform where their expertise, traditions, and contributions to hospitality are fully recognized.”With the launch of Juntos Prosperamos, RIHA underscores its role as the statewide voice of the hospitality industry and reaffirms its dedication to serving Rhode Island’s diverse and dynamic hospitality community.

A New Chapter for a Providence Landmark: The Patio on Broadway Team to Acquire Trinity Brewhouse

Trinity Brewhouse
Trinity Brewhouse

Trinity Brewhouse, Rhode Island’s original brewpub, will be acquired this summer by the team behind The Patio on Broadway, along with their family partners. All Rhode Island natives and longtime fans of Trinity, the new ownership team is excited to carry on the legacy of the iconic downtown institution.

This transition comes at a significant personal milestone for Trinity Brewhouse’s founder/owner, Josh Miller. “This year marks 50 years since I first obtained a liquor license in downtown Providence at age 21, with the purchase of the Met Café. At that time, I was the youngest person to obtain a liquor license in the city, and I am extremely proud to have continued my journey in the restaurant and hospitality industry and for Trinity to have played a role in Rhode Island’s food, drink, and cultural scene over the past thirty years. I am grateful to see the Trinity Brewhouse legacy live on in the hands of fellow Rhode Islanders who plan to preserve both the name and the spirit of the brewpub,” said Miller.  Trinity Brewhouse opened its doors in 1994, becoming one of the first two brewpubs in Rhode Island following the legalization of brewpubs in the state. The name was chosen in collaboration with Trinity Repertory Theatre, a meaningful nod to the past, as Miller’s parents both worked there in the 1960s.

Angel Winpenny, owner of The Patio on Broadway, shared her excitement about the future: “We’re thrilled to welcome Trinity Brewhouse into our growing family. It’s a privilege to be part of such a well-loved Rhode Island establishment, and our team looks forward to honoring its history and preserving the welcoming spirit and neighborhood vibe of the Brewhouse, while updating the space and continuing to grow the business.  We’re committed to keeping the Trinity name and continuing to serve the high-quality craft beer that Trinity has been known for since 1994.”

Trinity Brewhouse will host a series of special events and fundraisers supporting local nonprofits through the end of July, before closing for scheduled renovations in August. The refreshed space is expected to reopen in time to welcome Brown University Health to the neighborhood and to gear up for a busy fall season in the heart of downtown Providence. Trinity’s current team will remain actively involved throughout the transition, and the new owners plan to retain many longtime staff members, several of whom have been part of the Trinity family for decades.

Showcasing reimagined New England fine dining executed with classic technique, Claudine invites diners to embark on an intimate, imaginative, and sensory culinary journey in the heart of downtown Providence beginning today, Thursday, June 26th.

Brought to life by husband-and-wife team Chef Josh Finger and Chef Maggie McConnell, Claudine is not just a love letter to New England and to each other, but an expression of their shared passion for intentional hospitality, mastery of classic technique, and modern vision of exceptional fine dining in a lively, vibrant setting. Following respective culinary journeys spanning institutions like The French Laundry, Momofuku, and Per Se, Josh and Maggie serendipitously met in the kitchen of Thomas Keller’s three-Michelin-starred Per Se in New York City, where Josh worked for many years as executive sous chef and Maggie as pastry sous chef. Their experience at Thomas Keller Restaurant Group instilled in them a deep commitment to the precision, discipline, and collaboration required of a tasting menu-only service, as well as laid the foundation for a partnership inside and out of the kitchen. After countless trips to Maggie’s hometown of Providence, RI during their time in New York City, the couple set their sights on returning home to build their dream restaurant in the heart of the city.

“We are thrilled to finally plant our own personal and professional roots here in Providence and bring something special, that we deeply believe in, to the city I grew up in, and the one we both love,” Maggie said. “We’ve been working really hard over the years to make Claudine a unique and inviting space, and we are overjoyed to finally share it with the community and our neighbors. We hope it feels like an extension of our home and that our guests feel exceptionally welcomed and cared for by ourselves and our team.” Josh said.

Claudine will center upon serving a signature eight-course, $165 chef’s tasting menu that will evolve each night to allow guests to completely relax free of decision-making; feel wholly taken care of and considered; and experience the surprise and delight of a different, unexpected course, and visit, each and every time. While the menu will constantly change, the duo’s cooking style will consistently be rooted in their classic French training; commitment to utilizing the highest quality, seasonal New England ingredients available; and boundless creativity and intentionality. In addition to the signature tasting menu, a daily-rotating, vegetarian-friendly tasting menu will be available with 48-hour notice. Signature courses may include the likes of Olive Oil-Poached Black Bass with cerignola olive puree, basil pistou, and petite cucumbers; Ris de Veau Tortellini with roasted lobster cream, morels, and Parmigiano Reggiano; Bacon Chowanmushi with braised greens, and trout roe.

Complementing Claudine’s food menu, Claudine’s extensive beverage program has been carefully curated by wine enthusiast Chef Finger and will center upon a signature $100 wine pairing that will evolve daily based on the current tasting menu. Designed to mirror Claudine’s culinary philosophy and vision— showcasing classic techniques and standards while creating space for innovation, creativity, and the modern palate— it will have a strong emphasis on wines that embody Old World-style French winemaking traditions while also embracing the evolving landscape of wine, featuring lesser known winemakers who produce exceptional, sustainable, low-intervention varietals. In addition to the signature wine pairing, Claudine will also offer a daily-rotating, non-alcoholic beverage pairing for $65, wine by the glass and bottle, a selection of grower Champagne, a limited menu of classic cocktails, beers, ciders, and after-dinner digestives.

From its menus to its atmosphere, Claudine aims to awaken guests’ wonder, discovery, and connection Designed by Edit at Streetsense for optimum sensory immersion, the intimate 26-seat dining room is fully veiled from the bright city lights behind heavy, window-covering drapery and from the separate reception room into which guests enter from the street. Instead, the dining room is hidden from view and lit solely from warm interior lighting- to focus attention inward and transport guests far from the surrounding hustle and bustle. Further connecting guests to their meal and one another, every table will have unobstructed views of the bustling open kitchen and chef’s pass. Cozy alcoved banquettes and stand-alone tables; soft, ambient lighting; sumptuous, tactile fabrics; tile, wood, and marble finishes; smooth curved edging throughout; and a gold-foiled recessed ceiling will complete the warm and inviting yet moody and sophisticated feel.

Rounding out the opening team, Kate Carlson, formerly of Chez Pascal, will fulfill the general manager role and Shannon Gallagher, formerly of Little Moss, will be beverage director. Beginning Thursday, June 26th, Claudine will be open Thursday through Sunday evenings from 4:30 p.m. to midnight, with dinner reservations available from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Reservations for seatings through July are now available via Tock HERE. Hereafter, reservations will be released on the first of every month for the following month’s seating (ex: August seatings will be made available on July 1). Cheers! DEM Director to Award Grey Sail Brewing for Environmental Sustainability

On Tuesday, June 24, DEM Director Terry Gray will be awarding Grey Sail Brewing of Westerly as the first RI brewery recognized in the regional BetterBev group, which recognizes craft breweries for environmental sustainability efforts. For years, Grey Sail has worked with DEM to reduce environmental impacts of the brewing process and promote sustainable practices. Local beer, sustainability, and our environment are all things worth raising a glass to!

Since 2019, DEM’s Green Breweries Program has worked with local breweries to provide free technical assistance to help improve performance and reduce environmental impacts. In 2024, DEM launched BetterBev in partnership with other New England states to recognize breweries that demonstrate leadership in sustainability by reducing their environmental impact, pollution prevention, and conserving natural resources. With nearly 40 craft breweries in RI, DEM hopes more will follow Grey Sail’s example.

“The recognition of Grey Sail’s achievements in sustainable brewing marks an important milestone in our efforts to help Rhode Island breweries enhance their operations while reducing environmental impacts,” said DEM Director Terry Gray. “I hope this serves as an inspiration to breweries across the state – showing that embracing sustainability not only benefits the environment but also strengthens our local economy and communities.”

“As a local business in a coastal community, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint in all aspects of our operation,” said Alan Brinton, founder of Grey Sail. “From solar panels to carbon capture to donating our spent grain to local farms, we’re taking practical steps every day to lessen our impact. Thank you to DEM for recognizing the work of local breweries.”
