Narragansett Creamery wins Gold and Bronze Medals at the World Championship Cheese Contest

Narragansett Creamery was awarded a First Place Gold Medal for its Low-Fat Coffee Yogurt at the World Championship Cheese Contest on March 3–5 in Wisconsin. Our low-fat coffee yogurt contains milk and probiotic cultures, contains no stabilizers or preservatives, and is lactose free.

Narragansett Creamery was also awarded a 3rd  Place Bronze Medal for its Burrata Cheese. Each Narragansett Creamery Burrata is made by hand. Mozzarella is stretched to form a pocket where it is then hand-filled with Stracciatella, a mixture of “torn” mozzarella (Stracciare – to tear apart) cream, and a trace of salt.

This year’s World Competition was highly competitive with 2,978 entries from 29 countries. The contest initiated in 1957, is organized by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association.

“We are honored to win these awards in the Yogurt and Burrata categories and to be included with such an outstanding group of dedicated and creative cheesemakers,” said Mark Federico, owner and co-founder of Narragansett Creamery.

Narragansett Creamery is a family-owned creamery based in Providence, RI that uses milk from nearby New England farms to make its artisanal cheeses and yogurts.

“We thank our local farmers who supply us with excellent quality milk which enables us to create award-willing cheeses,” Federico said.

RI Brewers Guild Announces Inaugural RI Craft Beer Week

The RI Brewers Guild has announced plans for the inaugural Rhode Island Craft Beer Week set for March 5th through the 13th, 2022.  This celebration of the RI’s beer manufacturers will feature events scheduled at your favorite Rhode Island bars, restaurants, package stores and on-premises at RI’s 35+ breweries/brewpubs as well as virtual events hosted online.

“Over the past 10 years the RI Brewers Guild has seen tremendous growth” says Jeremy Ruff, Board President, RI Brewers Guild/Owner of LineSider Brewing Co.  “There were five original members of the guild in 2013 and today we have 37 members with a few more already in planning.  RI Craft Beer Week will allow us to showcase and celebrate these excellent makers.”

Local breweries are working hard to bring fun and unique events to life for this inaugural celebration, including in-state collaboration beers and special releases.    Grey Sail Brewing in Westerly and Apponaug Brewing Company in Warwick, have committed to hosting fellow RI breweries in their taprooms that week to showcase all that RI has to offer. Restaurants like Back 40 (North Kingstown), Black Oak Kitchen & Drinks (Coventry) and Pour Judgement (Newport) are planning Tap Takeover events featuring dozens of choices from local brewers.

Narragansett Beer will be hosting an “Ultimate Rhode Island Day” event to kick things off on March 5th.  Gansett will launch a new beer that day as well as host iconic Rhode Island staples like Del’s and NY System Wieners.  The event  “will pay homage to the wonderful little state we live in” said Brooke Cure, Community Manager.

One of the more unique features of the inaugural RI Craft Beer Week is the “Rhode Map Challenge”.  Utilizing the RI Brewers Guild Passport App on your smartphone, craft beer enthusiasts can check into and post photos of their beer from as many RI Breweries as they can that week.  The RI Brewers Guild wants to be clear that this should only be attempted with the help of a designated driver.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 5 fans including two tickets to the Ocean State Beer Festival, two entries to the Craft Brew Races Newport, a RI Brewers Guild Puzzle and much more!

“One of the many benefits of living in Rhode Island is that you can travel basically anywhere in the entire state in under an hour.  With the help of a dedicated designated driver, we think it is possible for fans to visit all or at least most of our members across RI Craft Beer Week!”  said Gary Richardson, Executive Director of the RI Brewers Guild.

Commemorative RI Craft Beer Week stickers and coasters will be available at some locations during this week and all events will be listed on the RI Brewers Guild website by February 25th.

For more information about RI Craft Beer Week and to find events near you visit: https://www.ribrewersguild.org/ri-craft-beer-week/

Month-long Poutine Indulgence Features 7 Restaurants Competing for Best Poutine

The Museum of Work & Culture is proud to announce the return of its annual Poutine Indulgence, now in its 6th year.

Throughout the month of March, Poutine Passport holders will be able to sample poutine (a traditional Québecois dish of French fries smothered in gravy and cheese curds) from seven restaurants across Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts.

This year’s restaurants include new entrants the Poutine Peddlers (Taunton, MA) and Red’s Kitchen (Seekonk, MA), as well as returning favorites Friskie Fries (Providence and Johnston), Adeline’s Speakeasy Kitchen Bar (Cumberland), Ciro’s Tavern (Woonsocket), KG Kitchen Bar (Providence), and Ming’s Sando Bar (Pawtucket).

Participants will have until April 1 at midnight to vote for their favorite poutine. The winner will be announced at the Museum’s annual Salute to Spring event on Sunday, April 4.

Poutine Passports are available for $15 each or two for $25 at shopmowc.com.

The Poutine Indulgence is made possible in part by the event’s generous sponsors: the Consulate General of Canada in Boston, the Quebec Delegation to Boston, Fournier & Fournier, the Brickle Group, and Lepine Financial Advisors, Inc.; along with David Soucy and Bourget and Associates, Inc.; as well as Esten & Richard Insurance, Wealth Management Resources, the Rotary Club of Woonsocket, and the Northern RI Chamber of Commerce.

Soulita and InDowncity to Launch Weekly Providence Holiday Shopping Event

Shop local and support small businesses downtown with a marketplace, live music, and food vendors at Celebrate Downcity 2021

InDowncity and Soulita are excited to announce their first ever collaboration, Celebrate Downcity 2021. The event will be held at Grant’s Block and on Westminster Street, between Eddy Street and Union Street, in downtown Providence. The weekly holiday festival will kick off on Nov. 27 for Small Business Saturday and continue each Saturday, including Dec. 4, Dec. 11, and Dec. 18, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each Saturday will feature local small businesses, musicians, artists, and food vendors.

Celebrate Downcity brings together Providence’s local creative community and small businesses to offer guests the best holiday shopping experience the city has to offer. A marketplace at Grant’s Block—organized by Soulita—will welcome over 20 local vendors. Merchandise will include a range of products, including clothing, jewelry, skincare items, accessories, housewares, greenery, and more. Each marketplace will be accompanied by festive live musical performances featuring local talent.

“Come experience Celebrate Downcity 2021,” says Evan Delpeche, Co-Owner of Soulita, “as we establish a cornerstone of local makers and sellers of Rhode Island. At Soulita, we continuously strive to unite, inspire, and create through artistic expression in public environments.”

On Westminster Street, shoppers can also enjoy a well curated selection of gifts at Craftland, Queen of Hearts and Modern Love, Symposium Books and Records, The Vault Collective, Civil, Homestyle, and Eno Fine Wines. Each shop offers a variety of unique items, from handmade cards to vintage clothing to skate equipment, providing shoppers with a one-stop location for holiday purchases.

“Our local businesses experienced a tremendous setback last holiday season,” says Joanna Levitt, Director of Commercial Leasing and Marketing for Cornish Associates. “InDowncity and Cornish Associates are here to encourage and celebrate their path towards recovery. This holiday, these businesses will be vibrant, filled with unique goods and ready for their customers to shop safely. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Soulita, bringing creatives from throughout the city to downtown to showcase the best local holiday shopping our community has to offer.”

For event dining, InDowncity will welcome a line-up of favorite food and beverage vendors, along with cafe-style outdoor seating on Westminster Street. Visitors are invited to sit under the heaters and enjoy refreshing beverages from Long Live Brewery and delicious food from weekly rotating food vendors. Restaurants and cafes on and along Westminster Street will be open for dining as well, including Small Point Cafe, Sura, Kleos, Little City Coffee and Kitchen, Serendipity Gourmet, and the Malted Barley.

Get the warm fuzzies this fall with a new collaborative release from Melvin Brewing and premier outdoor apparel brand Kühl®. In conjunction with Scenario Porter’s debut, Melvin and KÜHL® are giving back to the local communities where Melvin’s beer is sold and warming bodies on the outside by giving regional charities one premium quality KÜHL® jacket for every 10 cases or two kegs of Scenario Porter sold. Scenario Porter is available in limited release for three months starting Nov. 1 at select retailers coast-to-coast.

A robust porter made with oats and midnight wheat, Scenario Porter (6% ABV/MSRP $9.99/12-ounce six pack) is a beer fit to warm your insides with the rich, warming flavors of burnt sugar, cocoa and toast. It’s the first in a series of rotating seasonal releases from Melvin focusing on less-hoppier beer styles.

Everyone who shows up at an event with donations will be entered to win a KÜHL® jacket of their own.

“As a fellow independent brand, we feel a kinship with the good folks at Melvin.  We are proud and honored to collaborate on such a worthwhile promotion,” says Jonny Atencio, Director of Strategic Partnerships, KÜHL®.
