Newport Restaurant Group (NRG), an award-winning collection of unique restaurants and hospitality venues located throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts, is pleased to announce that it will host its third annual International Women’s Day Wine Dinner on Saturday, March 8th at 6:30 p.m. at Waterman Grille in Providence, Rhode Island.
The cost is $110.00 per person, including wine pairings, tax and gratuity. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Soujourner House, a Providence-based agency that promotes healthy relationships by providing culturally sensitive support, advocacy, housing, and education for victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. For tickets, please visit www.watermangrille.com/#events.
The talented female chefs and leaders of Newport Restaurant Group are teaming up for the four-course wine dinner to celebrate the achievements of women, and include Jennifer Backman, executive chef at Castle Hill Inn; Mariana Gonzalez-Trasvina, executive chef at Bar ‘Cino; Marissa Lo, executive chef at the Boat House; and Camille Murphy, dessert chef at Castle Hill Inn. Stephanie Steed, wine director at 22 Bowen’s Wine Bar and Grille, has selected the wine pairings for each course.
The first course, prepared by Chef Jennifer Backman will feature a Celebration of Vegetables: poached & pickled beet, rutabaga, and red cabbage marmalade paired with the rich and vibrant Cambria Chardonnay from Santa Maria Valley, California.
The second course, from Chef Mariana Gonzalez-Trasvina, will be Seafood Squid Ink Tortellini with tomato butter sauce, fennel, mussels, octopus, calabrian chile, and olive oil, complemented by the Travaglini Gattinara from Piedmont, Italy, an elegant, full-bodied red with flavors of small red fruits, flowers, and fruit jellies.
Chef Marissa Lo will prepare Blackbird Farms Beef Short Rib with potato rosti, pearl onion, pickled carrot, port demi-glace, and nasturtium, paired with Bezel Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles, California, featuring layers of sun-kissed wild blackberries, boysenberry jam, dried bay leaf, and dark chocolate.
Dessert from Chef Camille Murphy will be a Meyer Lemon Bavarian Yogurt Cake with huckleberry, and pistachio.
“We are so proud to celebrate Women’s History Month with what has become an annual event that not only highlights the powerhouses that are our female chefs, but also the incredibly important work that Sojourner House does in our communities,” said Mick Lamond, President and Chief Executive Officer, Newport Restaurant Group.
