Sakonnet Vineyard National White Wine Day 2025
August 3, 2025 @ 11:00 am – 7:00 pm
Sakonnet Vineyard, located at 162 West Main Road in Little Compton, will celebrate National White Wine Day (August 4th) on Sunday, August 3rd (the vineyard is closed on Mondays) by offering 10% of all purchases of white wine by the glass or bottle.
“White Wine Day is a welcome moment to celebrate the beauty and diversity of this category,” said Marissa Stashenko, Director of Operations at Sakonnet Vineyard. “From Chardonnay to Riesling to Vidal Blanc, each wine in our portfolio reflects a commitment to craftsmanship — shaped by our work here in Rhode Island and enriched by collaborations with small, dedicated growers around the world.”
Sakonnet Vineyard’s selection of white wines include:
- Vidal Blanc. Crisp and refreshing, this 100% estate-grown varietal features delicate floral aromas and hints of citrus. Vidal Blanc is a French hybrid grape known for its cold-hardiness, which makes it well-suited for sustainable farming in the New England climate. Pairing ideas: Seafood, grilled vegetables, salads with bright herbs, mozzarella or goat cheese.
- Sauvignon Blanc. Bright and refreshing flavors of grapefruit and lemongrass are followed by salty minerality. Clean winemaking, extended skin contact and a slow, cold fermentation in stainless, this wine is a collaboration with Sakonnet Vineyard’s growing partners in Germany, the Espenschied and Groehl families. This is the perfect wine for alfresco dining and coastal cuisine. Pairing ideas: oysters, grilled local fish, salad with mild vinaigrettes, fresh herbs, soft cheeses (goat).
- 2023 Riesling. Bursting with ripe fruit and floral aromatics, this mineral driven, off-dry Riesling is called ‘Feinherb’ in German. Masterful winemaker, mentor and grower, Eckehart Groehl, produces this wine with earth-friendly farming and native fermentation in stainless with brief skin contact. His vineyard hangs on the historic red slate and sandstone cliffs along the Rhine River. Pairing ideas: Asian or Indian cuisine, fish and chips, calamari, oysters.
- Belcourt White. This delightful 100% estate-grown blend combines the rich, stone fruit and pineapple notes of Chardonnay with the aromatic, floral characteristics of Vidal Blanc. The result is a well-balanced wine that showcases New England terroir. Pairing ideas: Sushi, shellfish, flaky white fish, lemon chicken.
- Chardonnay. This 100% estate grown Chardonnay is a beautiful wine, with crisp notes of white peach, honeysuckle, and flint with a smooth and well-balanced finish. It’s a versatile wine that complements many dishes. Pairing ideas: roasted fish or pork, vegetable risotto, pesto.
In addition to the White Wine Day celebration, guests can enjoy the folk stylings of Allysen Callery on Saturday, August 2nd from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. while enjoying wine tastings and flights in the tasting room, wine by the glass and bottle on the lawn, and frozen sangria and non-alcoholic frozen lemonade, as well as seasonal fare from the café, and lawn games for all ages.
Sakonnet Vineyard’s calendar of events for the season also includes yoga classes, fitness classes with RAD Fit studios, celebrations of Little Compton’s 350th as well as a Harvest Festival in October to celebrate Sakonnet’s 50th anniversary. For more information, visit www.sakonnetwine.com/events.
